Trello: Pushing Tracked Time to Cards
Connect Trello under API & Integrations and SCREENish adds a comment to a Trello card with each member's approved time on that project for the day, named after the member and the project. When a day changes because more entries are approved, the same comment is updated, so a card never collects duplicates. Optionally an activity review opens a card on a list you choose.
What you need from Trello
- An API key. Open trello.com/power-ups/admin, create a Power-Up (any name, your workspace), open its API key tab and generate a key.
- A token. On the same tab follow the Token link ("manually generate a Token"), allow access and copy the token. The token acts as you in Trello; you can revoke it at any time from your Trello account, and SCREENish stores it encrypted and never shows it again.
- The card for each project. Open the card and copy the eight characters after
/c/in its address, the card's short link. One SCREENish project maps to one card.
Connecting
- Open API & Integrations in the left menu. If it is your first connection, accept the API access terms shown at the top.
- In Time push: Jira, ClickUp, Trello choose Trello, give the connection a label, paste the API key and the token, and press Add connection.
- Press Edit on the new row and, next to each project that should reach Trello, paste the card's short link. Projects left empty are skipped. Press Save.
- Press Test: it should read Connected as your Trello username. Then press Sync now.
What appears in Trello
Each mapped card receives one comment per member and day, for example Screenish: Ann Lee, Support Team, 2026-09-17: 7h 40m. The comment carries the member's name, the project and the duration and nothing else: no screenshots, application names, window titles or pay rates ever leave SCREENish through a connection.
How often, and what is pushed
- SCREENish pushes automatically once an hour and looks at the last three days, so time approved later still reaches the card. Sync now runs the same push immediately.
- With Approved entries only (the default) only approved time is pushed; a day with no approved entries produces no comment. Turn it off in Edit to push every entry.
- Items lists what was pushed: the member, project and day, the Trello comment it became, and the minutes it carries.
Activity reviews as cards
Turn on Open an item for activity reviews in Edit and enter the id of the Trello list that should receive them. To find a list id, open the board, add .json to the end of its address and look for the list's id under lists. Each new activity review then creates a card named after the member, the severity and the day, with the time window in its description. It is a flag for human review, not a finding; nothing about how the review was detected is sent.
Pausing, replacing the token, removing
- Pause stops pushing without losing the mapping; Resume continues.
- If Trello keeps refusing the connection (for example after you revoke the token) SCREENish pauses it after repeated failures and shows the reason on the row. Paste a new token under Edit → Replace credentials and resume.
- Remove erases the stored credentials and the list of pushed items; comments already added to cards stay in Trello.
The same panel connects Jira Cloud (worklogs on issues) and ClickUp (time entries on tasks) in the same way, with an issue key or a task id instead of a card.
