SCREENish vs Hubstaff: An Honest Comparison (2026)

Hubstaff is the bigger, more established platform: it offers iOS apps, a broad integration ecosystem, and automated payroll — but its full feature set is spread across four pricing tiers plus paid add-ons. SCREENish takes the opposite approach: one flat price of $5.00 per employee per month with everything included — unlimited screenshots, activity levels, Android GPS, payroll reports, and human-reviewed mouse-jiggler detection. In short, Hubstaff suits larger and field-based teams that need integrations and iOS; SCREENish suits teams that want predictable pricing and employee-friendly monitoring.

When Hubstaff is the better choice

Hubstaff has been on the market for over a decade, and the breadth of the product shows it. It is genuinely the stronger pick when:

  • You live in other tools. Hubstaff's Team and Enterprise plans connect to a wide range of project management, helpdesk, and accounting software. SCREENish keeps a deliberately small footprint and offers far fewer third-party integrations.
  • Your team is in the field — or on iPhones. Hubstaff ships a full iOS app, and its Locations add-on brings geofenced job sites so crews can be clocked in when they arrive. SCREENish has no iOS app yet, and its GPS tracking is Android-only.
  • You want payroll to run itself. On Team and Enterprise plans, Hubstaff can automate actual payments to your team. SCREENish generates payroll and accounting reports, but you execute payments through your own tools.
  • You're buying at enterprise scale. A dedicated Enterprise tier, the Insights analytics add-on, and the track record of a large vendor all matter to procurement teams. SCREENish is a smaller company, and that's a fair consideration.

When SCREENish is the better choice

SCREENish is built for teams that want the essentials of screenshot-based time tracking without tier-shopping:

  • One price, everything on. $5.00 per employee per month covers screenshots, activity levels, GPS, reports, and every other feature. No add-ons to price out, and EU VAT is already included. See our pricing.
  • Fair fake-activity detection. Activity Review flags mouse-jiggler and auto-clicker patterns, then a person looks at the evidence before anything is reported. Nobody gets accused by an algorithm.
  • Consent-first identity verification. Face recognition (currently in beta) only activates after the employee explicitly approves it.
  • GPS without an add-on. Android GPS tracking with time, notes, and photo logging is part of the flat price — on Hubstaff, comparable Locations features cost extra on most plans.
  • Built-in team communication. Team Huddle offers peer-to-peer calls, chat, and file sharing that are never recorded or stored on our servers.
  • Client transparency. Share read-only project views with clients — they don't need a SCREENish account.

Be honest with yourself about the trade-offs, too: screenshots are retained for 45 days (privacy-friendly, but not suited to long-term archiving), and there is no iOS app yet.

Pricing compared

As of mid-2026, Hubstaff's published pricing (hubstaff.com/pricing) lists Starter at $4.99/user/month billed annually ($7 monthly), Grow at $7.50 ($9 monthly), Team at $10 ($12 monthly), and Enterprise at $25/user/month on annual billing, with a two-seat minimum on paid plans. Add-ons are priced separately: Insights analytics from $2.50/user/month and Locations GPS from $3.33/user/month. To roughly match what SCREENish includes by default — unlimited screenshots, payroll reporting, and GPS — most teams would land on Hubstaff Team plus the Locations add-on, around $13+/user/month on annual billing.

SCREENish charges a flat $5.00 per employee per month, VAT included for EU customers, with every feature enabled from day one. You pay for the exact number of employees you monitor and can adjust as your team changes; teams over 20 employees can contact us for custom terms. The trial requires no credit card.

Frequently asked questions

Is SCREENish cheaper than Hubstaff?

On the sticker, Hubstaff's Starter plan ($4.99/user/month billed annually, as of mid-2026) is a cent less than SCREENish's flat $5.00 — but Starter caps screenshots at 500 per user per month and excludes payroll and GPS. Feature-for-feature, matching what SCREENish includes typically means Hubstaff's Team plan plus the Locations add-on, around $13+/user/month. SCREENish stays at $5.00 with everything included and EU VAT covered.

Does SCREENish detect mouse jigglers and auto-clickers?

Yes. SCREENish's Activity Review automatically flags suspicious input patterns such as mouse jigglers and auto-clickers, and every flag is checked by a human before anything reaches a report — there are never automatic accusations. Hubstaff records activity levels on all plans; SCREENish's differentiator is the mandatory human-review step.

Which platforms do SCREENish and Hubstaff support?

Both run on Windows, Mac, and Linux and offer a Chrome extension. Hubstaff additionally provides iOS, Android, and a Firefox extension. SCREENish offers an Android app with GPS tracking included at no extra cost, but does not have an iOS app yet.

Does either platform verify who is actually working?

SCREENish offers consent-first face recognition (in beta): it only turns on after the employee explicitly approves it, and photos go through a human approval flow. As of mid-2026, Hubstaff does not advertise an equivalent face-verification feature; it relies on screenshots and activity data.
