Chrome Extension: Choosing the Project Manager and Project
Before it can track time, the SCREENish Chrome extension asks the employee to choose a Project Manager and a project. Both lists are filled from the employer's dashboard — the employee sets nothing up on their side, and there is nothing to assign for the Project Manager.
Project Manager is the employer — the company whose team the employee belongs to. Once the employee has joined that team through the employer's invitation, the employer is offered as the Project Manager automatically. There is no setting that appoints a person as Project Manager, and an employee cannot be their own. If the list is empty, the employee has not joined the team through the invitation yet, or they were deactivated: restore them under USERS > Deactivated Employees.
Project is any project the employer has assigned to that employee in PROJECT > Assign Projects to Employee(s) — see Assigning a Project to an Employee. The extension is offered the same projects as the desktop time tracking app. Two things keep a project off the list:
- It is not assigned to this employee yet. Only assigned projects are shown.
- It is set to Phone tracking. A phone project is offered to neither the extension nor the desktop app — see Choosing PC or Phone Tracking for a Project.
There is no separate Chrome extension setting per project any more. Older advice to switch a project to Chrome, or to designate it as an extension project, refers to a switch that was removed in July 2026; assigning the project is all it takes.
After you assign or change a project, ask the employee to sign out of the extension and sign in again — the lists are refreshed at sign-in, so the new project appears from the next one. They can then pick the Project Manager and the project and press START TRACKING TIME, as described in Chrome Extension: Getting Started.
